Finally, the sequel to the trilogy of the most successful franchise is ready to question your existence in the real world. Is Neo still trapped in the Matrix? Is it a dream? It is not, it’s real. A dystopian sci-fi action world which is in parts like an anime and in parts takes into existentialism. Everyone was eagerly waiting for the sequel to the trilogy. Warner Bros granted what the fans were asking for. By confirming the fourth edition,

after almost 18 years since the Matrix: The Revolutions. We expect The Matrix Resurrections to launch very soon. We received confirmation after a lot of changes and speculations. The audience awaits its release on the 22nd December 2021.

The Matrix Resurrections : Cast

Keanu Reeves and Carrie Annie Moss will return as Neo and Trinity for the fourth edition. Lana Wachowski is the writer and director for the film. Lily Wachowski, the co-creator of the franchise will not be a part. She needed a break and did not find the idea appealing. Warner Bros have shown their confidence in Lana. Warner Bros., Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich said in an announcement. “We could not be more excited to be re-entering The Matrix with Lana, Lana is a true visionary—a singular and original creative filmmaker—and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in ‘The Matrix’ universe.”

Neo and Trinity were dead in the last edition. The reason for their return, as they said, is the beautiful script that resonated with them. Keanu wanted one of the Wachowski sisters to remain a part of the series. Jada Pink Smith will return as Niobe, a character that rarely appeared in the sequels but he has been a consistent part of the video games. Lambert Wilson will return as French information-trafficking program The Merovingian and Daniel Bernhardt as the villainous Agent Johnson.  

Unpleasant news is the absence of Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus and Hugo Weaving as Agent Smith. Reports suggest Fishburne wasn’t invited but wishes the film well. Hugo’s absence is due to the scheduling conflicts which prevented him to wear his iconic glasses and black suit,

The Matrix Resurrections : New Faces

The Matrix Resurrections is going to introduce a whole lot of new characters. It can mean only one thing-new addition to the franchise. One of the most exciting addition will be Watchmen and Candyman star Yahya Abdul Mateen II. It is not an official confirmation but fans speculate that he will be the younger version of Morpheus. In the trailer, one can see Yahya providing red pills to Neo. The trailer also shows a glimpse of Priyanka Chopra Jonas.

Mindhunter and Frozen star Jonathan Groff will be seen in the movie. Member of the “Sense 8 “Cast including- Will Gorski,Max Riemelt and Toby Onwumere will be a part of the movie. Christina Ricci will again team up with Lana Watchowski after Speed Racer. Spartacus star Ellen Hollman and Andrew Cardwell will be a new addition to the Matrix franchise.

What To Expect

In the last edition, a truce between the machines and humans- where humans were decided to be given the choice to stay in Matrix. The Matrix Resurrections can look at humans as villains. It will tackle various mental health issues. From the trailer, Neo has gone back to being Thomas Anderson. He is away from the simulation and has been taking blue pills. Neo runs into Trinity at a coffee shop where they can’t seem to recognize each other. He meets Yahya( the alleged Morpheus) who supplies him with red pills. Neo is awarded a new power where he can stop actual missiles. We will get a glance of Neo as John Wick.
