Nintendo’s 2017 game The Legend of Zelda – Breath of the Wild‘s sequel is closer than ever before. Currently titled Breath of the Wild 2, the game will hopefully premiere on Nintendo Switch in 2022. Fans have extremely high expectations with the game, as it has been five years since the previous game came out. Breath of the Wild remains one of the greatest games in the Legend of Zelda franchise, giving the fans even higher expectations with its sequel.
Updates in the Gameplay
The gameplay of Breath of the Wild 2 seems similar to its prequel, with some updates. As we saw in the trailer that debuted in E3 2021, floating cities are back in the sequel. This, therefore, means jumping through clouds is back as well, along with paragliding. The mechanic is seemingly inspired by The Legend of Zelda – Skyward Sword, which was recently remastered in Switch.
Breath of the Wild 2 will also add a possibly updated free fall mechanic from Skyward Sword. We also saw Link using a new glove in the trailer that looks like a replacement for the Sheikah Slate. Another new surprise for us was the clip of a puddle of water reverting in time. This might hint at a new time-manipulating mechanic, but nothing can be said for sure yet.
News and Rumors
Majora’s Mask and Breath of the Wild 2
Back in 2000, the sequel to Ocarina of Time was released on N64, titled Majora’s Mask. Due to a shortage of time, Majora’s Mask reused several assets of Ocarina of Time in its development. This saved Nintendo a lot of time and money and helped in properly fleshing out the world of Majora’s Mask. Due to this, many fans have theorized that Breath of the Wild 2 will also reuse the assets of the previous game. This is because of the many similarities noticed in the trailer that Breath of the Wild 2 bears to its prequel.
Ganondorf fan theory
A fan theory suggests that Ganondorf will be a playable character in Breath of the Wild 2. It has been said that Ganondorf will play an integral role in the game, and the title of the game is hidden even now due to his involvement in the story. Though there is not enough evidence to support this theory, this will be an interesting turn of events in The Legend of Zelda franchise.
The Twilight Realm and Breath of the Wild 2
It’s possible that we will be seeing an alien invasion from the race of Twili in Breath of the Wild 2. This theory comes from the featuring of the architecture of the Twilight Realm in the first teaser of the game. This certainly supports the idea of this game as a darker turn for the franchise.
More rumors…
More rumors suggest an entirely new and unique map, unlike any we have seen in any Legend of Zelda game. Along with, Breath of the Wild 2 may feature much more dungeon exploring and several hidden bosses to go along with that. Aside from that, another rumor proposes that we will finally see Zelda as a playable character in this game. Though it seems unlikely, it’s a possibility that Zelda will have a much more active role in this installment than the previous ones.
Release Date of
Breath of the Wild 2
The first teaser came out in E3 2019 when the trailer said that the game was in development. After a two-year silence, the new trailer confirmed a release date of 2022. However, there was no indication of whether it will be early, mid, or late 2022. For now, we all can remain hopeful towards a release date that arrives as soon as possible.
