Release Date
Initially, there was announcements that the film would release on May 21, 2021. But, this date changed for the COVID-19 shutdown. It then shifted to premiere on April 1, 2022.
Then again in October 2020, the film’s release date was shifted to December 2021. This seems to be the fixed date. So with some luck, The Matrix Resurrections will have its theatrical premiere just before Christmas, on December 22, 2021. Fans will be able to watch the movie on HBO Max. There it will be accessible to watch for one month starting on December 22nd, 2021.
Cast of The Matrix Resurrections
The central cast members from the initial Matrix trilogy are all set to return for The Matrix Resurrections. This includes Lambert Wilson, Carrie-Anne Moss, Daniel Bernhardt, Keanu Reeves, and Jada Pinkett Smith.
Hugo Weaving, who played the legendary character of Agent Smith, was initially advanced for The Matrix Resurrections. But he declined the offer due to scheduling problems. Laurence Fishburne has already confirmed that he was not approached to return as the main character, Morpheus.

Characters that are returning
Keanu Reeves will act as Neo, the savior who prophesied both humanity and machines called the One. Over the path of the first three installments, Neo has gone from being a computer programmer to a freedom fighter and lastly to a superhero. He is the very core of the movies. A film just could not be possible in the franchise without Neo.
In his last look in The Matrix Revolutions, Neo had sacrificed himself to overpower Agent Smith. Broken a treaty between the Machines and all the other remaining free humans. Neo’s body was taken by the Machines, which opened the door for his eventual return.
Carrie-Anne Moss will come back as Trinity, a member of the human battle against the Machines. Neo and Trinity were in a connection in the initial trilogy until her death in The Matrix 3. It is presently unknown how she will be back for the fourth film.
