An Overview
The movie is based on the 2001 book by Sara Gay Forden – House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed. This movie explores the events leading to the murder of Maurizio Gucci by his ex-wife and its highly publicized aftermath.
Maurizio was the last of the Gucci family dynasty to run the fashion house. In addition to being a murder mystery, House of Gucci is also a tragic love story. Maurizio Gucci and Patrizia Reggiani married in 1973. They separated in 1985, followed by Maurizio leaving Patrizia for a younger woman. In 1995, a hitman shot Maurizio fatally outside his office as he arrived for work. He also shot the building’s doorman Giuseppe Onorato, but Giuseppe didn’t succumb. Patrizia was an immediate suspect in the case. In 1998, she was convicted of hiring four accomplices to carry out the execution of Maurizio.
