Since the time, HBO announced the official adaptation of Naughty Dog‘s The Last Of US everyone is excited and eager to know about the slightest details about the series. Neil Druckmann, the co-President of Naughty dog, cognizant of this fact, teased everybody by posting a picture from the series. In the picture, one can see protagonists Ellie and Joel from the backside. It replicates exactly the scene from the video game.
The action-adventure, survival horror game has not had a movie adaptation before. But its video-game sequel was widely acclaimed too. And while we do not as yet have much more than conjecture to offer at this point, it is a good time to go down the memory lane of when the original game (and its PS4 remaster) came out:
About the Series
This adaptation is continuing the long-running sporadic trend of adapting a video game into a TV series, Like Assassin’s Creed, Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil, and Prince of Persia, among many others. Some have worked but most haven’t. HBO’s announcement sparked a wave of enthusiasm for the lovers of the game. The game is hands down one of the greatest hits of all time in the history of video games. For such a series, the expectations are huge and the fans want every detail to be perfect. Neil Druckmann, the writer and creative director of the game, along with Craig Manson, the creator of the thrilling series “Chernobyl” are the creators of the movie.
The game is set in a dystopia. A post-apocalyptic world, twenty years after it has been hit by a deadly fungus. Joel, the protagonist, is given the responsibility to transfer Ellie out of a quarantine zone. The game is about their journey which looks easy and simple on paper but is a lot harder than it looks. Fans are eager to know who will portray them in the series. The creators have not revealed the entire cast. We know about a few of them. Like, Pedro Pascal will play the role of Joel. Bella Ramsey (also of “Games Of Thrones” fame) will play Ellie. Other members in the cast are, Nico Parker as Sarah Miller, Gabriel Luna as Tommy Miller, Merle Dandridge as Marlene, Jeffrey Pierce as Perry, and Anna Torv as Tess.
What to expect (The Last of Us)
Neil Druckmann has said that the series will be pretty close to the storyline from the game. Certain scenes and dialogues are lifted straight from the game. The creators wish to extend the series into 5-6 seasons. Due to this, fans are expecting a back story for Abby’s character. The series will cover the relationship between Ellie and Riley too. Neil has made it clear that the movie will also cover LGBTQ themes from the game.
Release Date
The series is still in production, with no specific release date announced, It is expected to come out sometime in 2022. The fans are overzealous and want to explore every nook and cranny of the upcoming series. The first look has ignited that spark in them. They must be hopeful the show can deliver on those high expectations. In this case, there is a good reason for that. Since it is an HBO production, one can always predict it to be a good show unless proven otherwise.
