Overview
Life is Strange True Colors is a graphic adventure game – one of the forms along with role-playing games that have really captured intensive storytelling in video games. It is developed by Deck Nine and published by Square Enix‘s European subsidiary. It was released on September 10, 2021. This game is playable on Microsoft Windows, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Stadia. In addition, it will be released for Nintendo Switch at a later date.
The player can control the protagonist Alex Chen from a third-person perspective. You can explore different locations in the fictional city of Haven Springs. Alex also has a unique power that can detect emotions and manipulate them. The game progress when you correctly handle the emotions using your gameplay choices. Of course, there is a price for that power. You – as a player – will get to feel the subjects’ emotions as a consequence of your in-game actions. That may be painful. Especially when the main plotline centers on solving the mystery behind the death of Alex’s brother.
True Colors is the fifth installment in the Life Is Strange series – and the third mainline game after Life is Strange 2. Released in its entirety divided into multiple chapters like The Walking Dead, this format makes it different from the previous ones. Gives it an extended experience much like a television show. Which in turn provides a greater sense of realism and a bigger emotional payoff. It has received high praise from video game critics as a consequence.

Life Is Strange True Colors is yet another recent example of how video games are increasingly becoming more and more realistic instead of being fantasy or escapist fun as action-adventure games historically have been (barring a few notable exceptions). It just might be the latest entry in the ongoing debate about video-game as an art form.
